WMAN/EMAN HISTORICAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE SEEKS PARTICIPANTS FOR ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

During this past year there has been renewed interest in the experiences of the people who lived through and played a role in the successful integration of Mt. Airy.

The WMAN/East Mt. Airy Neighbors Historical Awareness Committee wants to take advantage of this new enthusiasm and energy by conducting an extensive oral history project that will collect the fascinating stories everyone has to tell about their experiences living or growing up in Mt. Airy, and thereby develop an organized archive that would be available to scholars and interested people alike. The first focus will be people who lived in the area between the years 1946-1966. You may still live here! An organizational meeting to recruit prospective subjects and interviewers will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Elfant-Wissahickon Realtors, 7112 Germantown Avenue.

The Committee is interested in involving as many people as possible so neighbors of all ages are invited to be part of this effort. The plan is to train people in conducting oral history interviews. The Committee invites to the meeting:

  • People with experience conducting oral history interviews
  • Community members of all ages to participate in the organization of this project
  • Community members of all ages interested in conducting interviews
  • Community members who lived in Mt. Airy from 1946 -1966 – and may still live here – who are interested in telling their stories.

Some oral histories have been done in the past, but this effort is dedicated to compiling a comprehensive collection of historical treasures.

If you are interested in participating or know of people who could be part of this effort, please call Laura Siena 215-247-6704, or copy and paste the form below into an e-mail, fill out and send it to us.
