West Mt. Airy Neighbors Web Site

(This is the original web site I designed for WMAN, when I was the webmaster. This is no longer the active site for WMAN. If you are interested, WMAN’s new address is http://www.wman.net, and the current site still contains some of my original content.)

Welcome to Mt. Airy!

Mount Airy is located in the Northwest section of Philadelphia, a neighborhood of contrasts: apartments, single homes, twins and grand historical houses, amidst trees, yards and in close proximity to parks. It mixes an urban setting with a park-like and residential atmosphere, all within the city limits of the nations' fifth largest city. It is also situated in an area, that outside of Center City, is one of the most historic in Philadelphia. Germantown Avenue is the main thoroughfare; west of the Avenue is West Mt. Airy, and east of Germantown Avenue is East Mt. Airy. To the North is Chestnut Hill, and to the South is Germantown.

While Philadelphia talks of being a city of ethnic neighborhoods, Mt. Airy prides itself on being the most ethnically and racially diverse area of the city, recognized as a national model. The success of Mt. Airy is due to the long dedication of the community organizations, West Mt. Airy Neighbors and East Mt. Airy Neighbors. Though separate, they work cooperatively -- and now along with the newly created South Mt. Airy Neighbors -- to enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood. This web site will introduce you to WMAN -- celebrating its 40th anniversary this year -- and provide you links to the many features of the neighborhood.
