Inspired by ancient rites of passage such as the Vision Quest, these practices engage the imagination by using the mirror of nature to integrate mind, body, psyche and spirit. Such ceremonies may be used to mark: coming of age into adulthood, changes in relationships, career transitions, grief and loss, and other important life changes. This 6-hour one-day introduction is a group ceremony outdoors in the Wissahickon Valley. In an opening Council Circle, intentions are shared in a spirit of confidentiality and respect. Participants then find a power spot and sit alone for one hour to watch the mirror of nature for guidance and validation. A witnessing circle completes the ceremony. Light hiking is required.

MB29. Many people believe that both spirituality and community are important, but in todays world it is sometimes a struggle to feel both. One way to strengthen both spiritual awareness and community ties is through ritual. Most of us are familiar with formal rituals like weddings and funerals, but creating ritual is a skill which has not been highly emphasized. The goal of this course is to familiarize ourselves with different types and aspects of ritual, examining ritual as a spiritual tool and as a means to foster community and sisterhood. For our final meeting, well celebrate a ritual we plan together.

MB31. If you are interested in exploring increased self-awareness and authenticity in your life, consider this course. It is an opportunity for adults interested in self-exploration and personal growth to learn how to make deeper connections with others. This will be both descriptive as well as experiential. The approach used will be Gestalt therapy, an approach developed by Fritz Perls. This course will provide you with an opportunity to learn how to build on your skills to access your feelings, identify unhelpful thought processes, and communicate effectively what you want to express to others. Honest, straight-forward, and non-critical feedback to other individuals is the necessary basis for intimacy and enhancement in all relationships, and is one aspect of the Gestalt approach to self-awareness.
