Whats New in this Issue:
First, as mentioned above, this is MALTs 20th year. In May we held a birthday bash at Allens Lane Art Center and were entertained by Sharon Katz and Peace Train and the winners of the neighborhood treasure hunt were announced. Our cover photo is an aerial photo taken at Mt. Airy Day in May by Laurie Beck and replicates a photo taken in 1987. T-shirts are available at the MALT Office. On September 22 is the MALT Ball at Chestnut Hill College. More information is available about this and other 20th anniversary events on the 20th anniversary page.
Mission Statement:
Mt. Airy Learning Tree is a non-profit service organization that encourages community diversity in Northwest Philadelphia by bringing together neighbors to share ideas and to learn from each other in informal, non-curricular environments. It achieves this goal by offering throughout the year a wide-range of programs and classes that celebrate the talents of the community and encourage exchange among people of different ages, backgrounds, and experience. MALT is committed to serve the welfare of its community by promoting the value and fun of lifelong learning.
MALT is cherished and supported by the community. The neighbors water it, nurture it, are interested in it, and pay attention to it in a way that is really remarkable.
